No one likes broccoli

This past week has been interesting to say the least…
I’ll leave out of few details that shouldn’t be broadcasted on the www. (I’m happy to have my journal back – it’s been helpful lately.)

Last week, I had an excellent shopping experience. Most of you know I hate to shop. Moreso, I hate the people that shop – they stress me out because most of them are idiots.
Anyway,  I need a dress for our upcoming vacation… so I visited Macys.com – I bought 3 different dresses… had them shipped to me… tried them on at home, in my own mirror, in my own lighting… with only my husband to give me advice.
It was so relaxing to make the decision without hearing idle chatter or screaming children from the fitting rooms in a store.
I’ve picked my dress… and the remaining ones have been boxed up and will be shipped back out for return. No stress - just a dress!

Friday evening, we had some friends over to watch the first preseason game for the Atlanta Falcons. It was a quiet evening… BYOB… and everyone brought a snack to share…
My snacks included my ‘famous’ taco dip and a vegetable tray, consisting of carrots, celery and broccoli. By the end of the evening, it was pretty obvious that no one likes broccoli as much as I do! Wow. Next time, I guess I’ll just pass on the broccoli and buy more carrots.

Did you know that suntan lotion / sunscreen expires? My sister-in-law and I were discussing this a few weeks back… and neither of us really had a definite answer. So, yesterday, while SB and I were out… we went ahead and bought a new bottle, which I noticed carried an expiration date of 6/13. So – we’re good to go. And, upon returning home, realized that our supply of sunscreen was, in fact, expired. Just goes to show you learn something new every day.

I leave you today with my favorite quote.
To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

July

Wow. July sure has flown by… I feel like I owe you guys a post. Or four.
Jen, over at The Next Jeneration, has “inspired” me to write something. Maybe I should write littler things more often, instead of waiting until I have too much to say… then either get bored with typing it all… or just get too lazy to actually type it out.
I could tell you all the fun and exciting things that happened to us in July… but honestly, I think I’d rather just complain about stuff -

I hate that my journal is on vacation. I’m going to have to spend an entire Sunday catching up on my writing when it returns the first week in August.

I think it’s funny when people give me their email address… and it’s randomperson@AOL.COM. Geez, people… let go already. (I think the same thing for people that have mindspring and prodigy addresses.)

I hate that lightning hit our house last week, and I didn’t have cable TV or internet over the entire weekend. AND, we are supposed to meet with an electrician tomorrow to assess the other damages in the house- SB’s garage door opener, no lights in the laundry room and no lights in “manlandia” (the spare bedroom that holds everything that we don’t know what to do with).
Does anyone have a whole-house surge protector on their home? Any thoughts? We are semi-seriously considering getting one in the future…

I hate that our really cool laser printer hates me. I’m printing some invitations for an upcoming party – and it’s pretty important. But the printer likes to tell me it has a paper jam – all the time! The bad part is, I’m using manual feed, so there’s no paper to paper jam! Freak.

Update – from yesterday to today… I spoke to my dad yesterday about the lights in our downstairs rooms. After following his suggestions… it turns out the GFI outlet in the bathroom was tripped, causing the room lights not to work. Who knew? Oh well, that’s fixed – but we still have to get the garage door opener fixed.
Another updated from yesterday to today… you probably really don’t want to hear about all the things I hate today. I think I’m in a mood… I’ll be back when my mood lightens. Later.

WAIT! One more. JUST NOW.
I hate when people call back my business and say, “I missed a call from this number.” If no one left you a message, don’t call back. I have no idea who called you from this number – we have lots of phone lines. Just wait – if it’s important, that same person might call you back. Idiots.

Scrapbooks…

Usually over a holiday weekend, when I know I have day(s) off work… I plan to work on my scrapbooks.
I haven’t done this lately, but upon our return from New York City… I printed my pics and bought some cool NYC stickers and paper. (And I had to get the pics printed so we could send a Thank You note and picture to Clayton Morris from FoxNews!)
To make a short story long, I was pretty excited to put my creativity to use again to make something fun- until I pulled out the “current” album… and realized that the last pics I put in the album were from our trip to Hilton Head Island… in July 2009.
HOLY COW!
I have totally fallen down on the scrapbooking job… I haven’t even printed pics from various Braves games, two cousins’ weddings, New Year’s Eve, our SuperBowl party, Kate’s Wedding… and well, I DID print our 2010 RC Cruise- only because our wonderful travel agency (plug here: The Gordon Group) sent us a really cool photo album to use for our cruise pics… but, otherwise, I haven’t printed much… and obviously not put any of the aforementioned pics in ANY album. Eeek! I’m sooooo behind!!
Alas, I didn’t work on my scrapbook over my not-so-long weekend… but now I have a great new goal to accomplish in the semi-near future – hopefully!
Here’s to printing lots of great pics, and revisiting the creative side of myself…. very soon.

I <3 New York

For Memorial Day weekend, SB and I went to New York. Manhattan, to be exact – we stayed at the fabulous Michelangelo hotel.
We arrived at the hotel about 11a, to find that our room would not be ready until about 2p. We left our luggage with the front desk… and began our walking tour around the city.
Our first stop, the Fox News plaza – while walking around outside, we ran into Fox & Friends Weekend anchor, Clayton Morris. SB has been chatting with him on Twitter and Facebook for a while… so we introduced ourselves – and he took us inside for a short guided tour! WOW! Being the radio/TV geeks we are, this was quite a highlight for us. We visited Stuart Varney’s set, Bill O’Reilly’s studio and the Fox & Friends set – where we had our pic taken on the ‘curvy couch.’ Yay.
We continued our tour, walking through Times Square and up Broadway… where we finally settled on lunch at the Stage Deli.
We had debated on going to the Carnegie Deli, but the line was crazy – what should we expect on a Saturday afternoon?
Still, the Stage was awesome – definitely a must-see, or must-eat. Sandwiches there are HUGE – of course, they’re also $23 – but you have to share it. Seriously, we didn’t have much chance at finishing our halves. (Carnegie Deli’s slogan is- ‘If you can finish your meal, we’ve done something wrong.’ This could definitely apply at Stage Deli, too.)
Finally, we were able to check into our hotel – we rested for only a few minutes… and opened the bottle of Jack Daniels we had shipped to NY for our trip. Don’t laugh. We know how to save money! Sometimes.
Our next adventure took us to Rockefeller Center, then aboard the Metro, where we visited Ground Zero- I can’t describe the feelings that went through my mind while we looked at the monuments and that empty space. There was a good crowd at the site- I’m glad to see people have not forgotten.
Saturday night was our Broadway show. We saw ‘Born Yesterday.’ The cast included Jim Belushi and Robert Sean Leonard, and the story was great – we really enjoyed the whole experience. (And, Robert Sean Leonard is much hotter in person than he is on House, M.D.)
On the walk back from the play, SB satisfied his craving for a Sabrett (dirty water hot dog) from a street vendor. He said it’s like getting a hot dog on the beach in Daytona – it’s just something you have to do.
