If the programs you are running on the workstations are installed on the server & the server is slow, its going to slow down the workstations. I would start with upgrading the ram on the server to 2gb. If that doesn't help then it might be time to upgrade to a new server. Its newer technology kind of related to the little sd cards which has no moving parts and is faster (especially for servers). The old hard drives have moving parts and are much slower when processing. Hope you get the slowness issues resolved.
